Resilience
A concept capable of making the invisible visible and communicating a complex idea universally.
How do you explain an abstract concept such as resilience, in the context of World Bank-backed index insurance, to profoundly different audiences?
The challenge was to communicate how individuals, families, and communities can develop the capacity to recover after a natural disaster—preventing an unexpected event from destroying what they have built and enabling them not only to recover, but to keep moving forward.
Resilience is a process that grows quietly within a person, family, or community. The egg became the perfect metaphor: life develops inside it, invisible to us until it is ready to emerge. Similarly, resilience is built without always being visible, yet reveals its full strength when we face adversity.

What is index insurance?
Resilience-focused agricultural insurance seeks to protect vulnerable families and communities from the economic consequences of natural events that can destroy their crops and livelihoods.
Beyond explaining how insurance works, it was essential to communicate why developing resilience and the ability to recover can help a community rebuild from a stronger foundation after a crisis.
To do that, we needed an idea that was simple, human, and universal.
Everyone could understand the egg metaphor.

Creating one idea capable of speaking to entirely different worlds.
The goal was to develop a concept that could explain resilience and index insurance to multiple stakeholders—from global leaders at international events to vulnerable communities with different levels of education and access to information.
The solution could not depend on technical knowledge or specialised language. It needed to be simple without being simplistic, emotional without losing clarity, and universal enough to transcend cultures and contexts.
The egg gave us that shared language.
